I'd like to know if a loaded handgun is allowed in a vehicle if a person doesn't have a permit. Some states allow it in the glove box, does Texas?

Wow, feckless reiteration. I'd now like, after having read this, to know what Texas' definition of "reckless" is. Is it too much to at least have a debate other than just posting a link? Sorry if this offends, but damn.

It is the HB 1815 That changed the rules this year for anyone to carry a concealed handgun in their car with out a CCW permit.

HB 1815 was actually passed to clarify some issues left dangling by a similarly-enacted law in 2005, according to Wendy Hopper, Texas Senator Craig Estes’ executive assistant. Now, it simply isn’t an offense to carry a gun in a vehicle, but with these three critical qualifiers: (1) the gun must be concealed; (2) the carrier cannot be involved in criminal activities; (3) the carrier cannot be a member of a criminal gang. The fourth rule isn’t mentioned in the bill, but stands from laws on the books for a long time, and that is that no felon can carry or even be around a gun.

If you leave the car you need a CCW permit.

My daughter has a Texas permit and wasn't aware of post office carry. I told her NO....am I correct? Thanks.

There is much debate about the post office. Their posted rules, IIRC, describe it as being a criminal act to carry there for other than "sporting" or "other lawful purpose". I don't know of much game to be hunted at the post office, so I'm not sure how "sporting" figures in, but self defense is a lawful purpose.

That said, I do not wish to be the test case, thankyouverymuch.

The post office close to us actually has a metal detector that will go off, but I don't think any of the employees even look up
