I am a transplant from California that has moved to Georgia and now I will be moving to Alabama ( Montgomery). Having said that I do have a CCW here in Georgia and will like to get one in Alabama when I move. Anyone know what is involved in getting one?

I came across a website for the Tuscaloosa sheriffs department that has info on "pistol permits" it is at tcsoal.org/faq.html They say they only issue to people who are residents for 6 months, your Ga permit is recognized there so I'd keep it current. It mentions nothing about out-of-state permits not being valid after a certain time. Some states like Tennessee require you to get theirs after a certain length of residency (6 months for them). It looks like it is may issue by the sheriffs department, but they do recognize Utah and Florida so that might be another option.

I recently made an internet search of all 50 states and located this bit of info and these two websites. I hope they are of assistance. :)

Section 13A-11-85
Reciprocity for licenses issued in other states.
(a) A person licensed to carry a handgun in any state whose laws recognize and give effect in that state to a license issued under the laws of the State of Alabama shall be authorized to carry a handgun in this state. This section shall apply to a licenseholder from another state only while the licenseholder is not a resident of this state. A licenseholder from another state shall carry the handgun in compliance with the laws of this state.
(b) The Attorney General shall periodically publish a list of states which meet the requirements of subsection (a).
