Have you added your voice to this USA Today poll?

I haven't decided if USA Today posted that as they did out of ignorance or malice. The 2A does not, in fact, give us our RKBA, it protects it, so I can see this poll being used to point out, "SEE? SEE? 99% of the population say the right is "given" by the Constitution, so that means we can just take it away, too!"

As for me, I voted yes, as well, not because I agree with every word, but because the other side of that is that if they posted the question as they did out of ignorance, I'm not going to be the guy that tells them no and have that interpreted as "Oh, they say there's no right!"

Serious case of Hobson's Choice.

B

There are some very good comments on the USA Today poll.

Thanks Lady Di for starting this.

With 133,278 votes cast as of today, it shows 97% yes, 2% no, 1% undecided. It seems we're slipping a bit-that or the Brady Bunch finally told people about it. I tend to think the latter, since 2% is about 2,666 votes, and symbolically, it seems to fit.http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd198/St-Michael/devil.gif

I will agree that the wording of the question is strange and could later be used to spin for whatever group wants to grab our firearms next.

I did notice that they left out the word "keep". So the next group would say well sure they have a right to bare arms, but we want legislation passed that allows local agency to "keep" them and check them out when needed.

I answered yes, but I was uneasy about it.

97% yes

Sadly, there will always be people stupid enough to give themselves over to ruling authorities.

Polls prove nothing. They only show what is perceived.

Polls are useful tools in promoting a cause. Legislators DO pay attention to these types of polls, which is why they are important. A legislator who may be sitting on the fence on a gun control measure may think twice about it after reading this poll.

Potential votes. Aw. Never considered that. Yes, in regard to swaying politicians a public poll could be very useful. But I still stand by my position, that a majority choice in a poll is not necessarily the truth.
