Woman Accused of Bringing Loaded Gun Into Disney World
Sunday, December 09, 2007

There was a little less enchantment in the Magic Kingdom Sunday morning when a 63-year-old Pennsylvania woman was taken into custody for allegedly bringing a loaded semi-automatic into the park.

Disney World security personnel reportedly discovered a silver handgun on Mary Ann Richardson as she entered the park with other family members, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The .32-caliber Beretta handgun had been loaded with seven live rounds in the magazine, but the chamber was empty, MyFoxOrlando.com reported.

Richardson claimed she regularly traveled with the gun and forgot she had been carrying it around in her purse. Also found in Richardson’s purse was a pair of scissors and a locked blade knife, authorities said. She was charged with possession of a concealed weapon.

I really hope she fights this. Why she should have to have the government's permission to exercise a right is beyond me. I like permits for the fact that they pacify the sheep, but I dislike them because only those of us who, you know, obey the law bother to try to get them. The people from whom we need protection carry anyway, and without "permits".

Not really surprising - the 'politically correct' clones running both Disney parks have shown more empathy for child molesters in their employ than 'government approved' firearms owners. I wonder if she had a PA LTCF... if she did, then why was she arrested?

Possession of the firearm on park property is not *illegal* just against the "rules"

If she IS a LTCF holder, I really hope she fights this!

Lildobe has a good point. For it to be against the law, there has to BE a law. Is there a law in the State of Florida that prohibits carrying a gun into an amusement park?

Is the park posted against firearms, probably? What is the penalty for bringing one in if it is? Did the locked blade knife qualify as the concealed weapon possibly? Maybe thats not covered under Florida CCW carry licensing.

Follow the money!

I wasn't there, so I can't say with any degree of certainty, but to posit a logical hypothesis: How much money does Mouseworld funnel into the local economy, and how much of that stays with Disney? In most parts of the country, when an 'owner' posts his property against firearms, anyone disobeying such signage can be asked to leave. If such request is not acted upon by the individual 'in a timely manner' - a term open to interpretation at best - such individual is liable for 'criminal trespass' (or similar wording), 'elevated' from misdemeanor 'trespassing' by the possession of the firearm.

Having had some slight experience with the resort, I would venture to say that had Ms. Richardson so much as stood her ground long enough to ask 'why?', it is not beyond belief that the 'security' rodents interpreted and reported such action as 'refusal' to leave, hence the arrest.

Given that the establishment underwrites a goodly portion of the local tax base, it would not be all that far fetched to presume that whatever the personal opinion of the Orange County Sheriff's Office may be, political expediency dictates they cater to the servants of Mouse, especially on land owned by the Disney monolith.
