The big dummies in Chicago are definately trying to close all the gun shops in Cook county. After that happens they will be crying about people buying guns outside Cook county. I recall King Richard Daley of Chicago wanting to stop sales of firearms within a 100 miles of Chicago. Chicago is a growing cancer in the state of Illinois, when they pass an assault weapons ban or other restriction they then want to export it to the rest of the state. Thankfully the democrats are fighting enough among themselves with the governor calling the democrat speaker of the house Madigan and King Richard dirty names. Governor calling a special session for funding of the Chicago Transit Authority and then taking off for a Blackhawk hockey game. This was on one of those rare occasions when Blagojevich was actually in the capitol, not Chicago.
This is the same governor trying to force legislators to come to his special sessions. Keep it up, this kind of leadership should be rewarded.

Perchance these jerks can get their ordinances ready in time to be considered on February 14th?

The more I read about local attempts to regulate or ban guns, the more strongly I think we need pre-emptive federal law guaranteeing our 2nd Amendment rights. What good is national recognition of the right to bear arms, if any three councilmen on a five member board can deny that right to millions of Americans who just happen to live in their district? That makes me crazy.

Wasn't the 2A supposed to be a pre-emptive law like that, George?

That's how I'd interpret "...the right...shall not be infringed." and "Any law which is repugnant to the Constitution is null and void.", from the 2A and Marbury v. Madison, respectively.

I view it kind of like a parent telling their child, "No cookies before dinner." Kids being kids, you say that and keep an ear on the kitchen so you know when to go in and catch them up on top of the countertop with their hand in the cookie jar.

We, the people, in the role of the parent, have unfortunately gotten distracted with American Idol or a nice, long football game, rather than pay attention to what's important, and I think the time is long overdue that we as a people need to head back to the kitchen to send the "child" (Congress, and gov't in general) to the corner with a sore backside and then perhaps to bed without supper for their disobedience.
(as in, out of office, sans pension)

But I'm sure we can do that at the next commercial. </sarcasm>
