So, I was watching T.V. last night with the wife and we were watching CANE to series. For those of you who haven't seen this show it takes place in Florida, and is focused on a cuban family that produces Rum. Well, one of last nights episodes (there were two last night) has the main charector and his adopted step brother going to their parents house to board up some windows due to a tropical storm. While at the house, of course the power goes out and they hear glass. One draws his CCW piece and starts to clear the house. As he returns he finds two armed Gang bangers (MS13) holding his brother. One has his weapon on the brother the other has his weapon pointed at our hero. Our Hero does not shoot, he hesitates and tries to talk to the two armed scumbags. While he tries to reason with them, a third gang member comes from behind and grabs the gun from his hand. OOPPSSS!!!!! What the hell good is your weapon A) if you don't use it and B) if it gets taken away. This bugged the hell out of me the rest of the night.
Did anybody else watch it? What do you ladies and gentlemen think?

I didn't see the show, but it presents a problem similar to what VegasGeorge asked about a while back. Tactically, what do you do if you walk in and find a perp, who immediately drops his gun? You can't shoot him, but he may have buddies, and you may have family in the rest of the house.
In this setting, it would depend a lot on positioning, accuracy, and speed. If the two perps you saw were close enough together that you could hit the one aiming at you first, then the one aiming at your brother, hopefully before either of them shot at you, do so. I say in that order because if you shoot to save your brother, you get hit and die. If you shoot the guy aiming at you first, you have a chance of hitting the other guy before he gets off a shot. (not a good chance, but a chance)
Ideally, you'd both be carrying, pick out corners to stay in so no one can get in behind you, or clear the house back-to-back. If you're not both armed, it's probably wiser (and 20/20 hindsight) to just get out when you hear the glass break. I know FL has Castle Doctrine, but the BGs had advantage in both numbers and surprise.
Just my $0.02

Everyone who watches any amount of television knows the first rule of dangerous situations. If you leave anyone where they'll be safe, they'll be the next one the monster gets.

First of all. DONT TRY AND CLEAR YOUR HOUSE! Most of us are not cops. When cops clear a house... they have a specialized team, with alot of training and better weapons than a handgun, and even then, it is the highest risk operation on their books.
Unless you are in a situation where you have to get to family... hunker down and call the cops. In that scenario. the brothers should have retreated... or stayed together and called the cops. It is much easier for two to defend one room that many. Of course, that would not be the way Hollywood would ever write it. But back to real life.....
2 cents...
