I've shopped at the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World in Las Vegas several times. It's located at the Silverton Casino, 8200 Dean Martin Dr., which is just off Blue Diamond Rd., West of South Las Vegas Blvd. It's kind of like a Disneyland for outdoor enthusiasts, and has an extensive gun department.

My impression of the store is that it's a great place to shop for sale items. They run ads in the local papers. It's also a good place to go if you know what you want. They are likely to have it. But, I've been disappointed in the lack of knowledge their sales people have about their merchandise. For example, if you walk up to the gun counter and ask to see a specific pistol that's in the case, the chances are that you will have to point it out to the clerk. He won't recognize it by make and model number. If you ask anything specific about a weapon, chances are that the clerk will have you wait while he asks, or while he looks it up on the computer. It's not the kind of place where you would want to rely on the sales clerk's recommendations.

If you go to Bass Pro, don't miss the Fine Gun Room. It's a lot of fun! And, although I haven't had occasion to use either, they do have an indoor firing range and a gunsmith on premises.

Like other CCW permit holders, when I visit the Bass Pro Shop I always couteously show my permit to the Greeter at the front door and have never once had any negative experience. They simply welcome me to the store and thank me for extending the courtesy of showing my permit.

Sad, I think, that you should be expected to do so, or that anyone else has to know you're armed. The only people who should ever know for certain you are are your family and those who find out the hard way.

Blessings,
