Hi Everyone,
I found this site the other day and have found it pretty interesting, so I thought I'd join in. I guess the name says it all... I have spent more years than I care to admit wearing a badge here in Texas, and have seen more than my fair share of the dark side of man. I recently retired as a LEO and have joined corporate america. I will state upfront that I have always been a strong believer in people's right to carry and defend themselves. I also find it strange that for the first time in years I am carrying as a CHL holder.

I hope I can add something of interest to the discussions here and I look forward to my time here.

Regards,
JB

Welcome, OldTXCop! It's great to have you here. I hope you will be generous with us in sharing your knowledge and experience. We need it! :D

I was surprised to read that you are carrying "as a CHL holder." I thought retired LEOs continued to carry as peace officers. Oh well, just another of my misconceptions.

Welcome, OldTXCop, to CarryConcealed, and thank you for your service!
What part of Texas issued your badge? (I see Sugar Land, but didn't know if that was where you worked also, or just the place you chose to retire to.)

I also was surprised to see that you carry as a CHL, rather than a retired LEO, and would be interested in knowing more if you're willing to discuss.

Again, welcome, and

Blessings,
B

We are glad your here! Just in-case you could not tell, we are very grateful to the law enforcement, military, fire and rescue teams and those that risk their lives for our freedom and safety.

Thanks all, glad to be here.

I spent my years with the Harris County Sheriff's Dept., the majority of them working "the streets".... I'm carrying as a CHL holder, because I took an early medical retirement and it's less hassle to have a CHL, than to deal with the political "red tape".

It's also about a 1.5-2 hour drive to the range to qualify. That's on a light traffic day and with all the road construction around here there aren't many of those in Houston anymore. It's not the qualifying that's the problem... I shoot at least 2-3 times a month, it's just much more convenient this way.
