This is so sad. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.....
This also should remind all of us that many unloaded guns kill people. The article states that they were about to enter the field and he was unloading the dog from the truck.
The Golden Rules for safe gun handling: Keep your gun pointed in a safe direction; Keep your finger off the trigger until you are sure of your target and what is behind; Keep your gun unloaded until ready to use. If they had just unloaded the gun inbetween fields they would not be attending the funeral.
On another note -
In the CCW world, unloaded until ready use means when the gun is not being used for self defense. If the gun is on your hip or in a quick access safe that is being "ready to use for defense purposes" it should be loaded.

Sympathies and condolences to the family and all who will miss Mr. Price.
Accidents happen, but watch how fast the Brady Bunch jump on this.
I'm with you, Stubob. My Taurus is unloaded only when I'm changing ammo at the range, when I'm cleaning afterward, and when I'm dry-fire practicing with snap-caps loaded.. My AK, however, has ammo in mags, just not in the gun unless I'm at the range.
Cogito, ergo porto.
Blessings,
