I guess i'll introduce myself. I'm Daniel, a US Army Paratrooper. I just got back from the hell hole, and recently bought a Glock 23 for carry purposes. As I told my wife, i didn't survive 14 months of combat, to be gun-downed by a teenager who's mommy didn't hug him enough. This is my first firearm, I don't hunt, and there for don't have alot of use for rifles, and of course being only 22 there is that whole age law thing. Anyway, this looks like a great recource. Unfortunately, US Army Alaska has a policy against it's soldiers carrying firearms, as is their Federal, and state right. Thankfully, I will only be part of that organization for a few more months. I will say this Alaska is great about their laws, and while i wouldn't "theoritically" need a permit to carry in alaska (since I don't carry my 23 in my Galco Cozy Partner, as per USARAK policy) I am getting my State concealed permit for the reciprocacy in other states. It's a shame though, that the army is so concerned with it's image that combat proven soldiers, possibly some of the most qaulified citizens to carry because of their experience, are denied they right to protect themselves and their loved ones in the dangerous place our own country is some times. Alright, end rant.

Welcome, DMorrison. My maiden surname is Morrison. Maybe we have common branches on our family tree. I've met many Morrisons from around the country, but never one from Alaska. Is that where you're originally from?

Did you know that John Wayne was a Morrison?

Welcome, DMorrison! http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd198/St-Michael/wave.gif

Thank you for your service to our country, and welcome home. I will offer a slight difference of fact with you, however: The US Gov't, any state gov't, or in fact, any gov't or anything but a person, created by God, has NO "rights" at all. They have powers, and the two are not the same thing. Rights come from our Creator. Since we humans create government and have not the ability to give or to take rights, government has none.

My apologies if I sound condescending, as this is not at all my intent. I consider the difference worth noting, however. Hopefully you will, too, and will pass this on when you have a chance to do so.

Blessings,
B

Welcome DMorrison, and thank you for your service to our country!

Don't get pushed out of shape over the army's attitude toward soldiers carrying guns. Just finish out your time complying with their stupid regulations. And, be assured that we citizens with at least a little common sense are more than happy to have you armed and carrying in our communities.

Glad to have you here. I look forward to reading your posts.

I am sorry if i was misunderstood, i was referring to soldiers (us citizens) right to carry a weapon, the rights granted to them from the Gov't not the Gov'ts right to take it away from me. It took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about.

Fair enough. Sorry I misunderstood you-I find I'm having to give that lesson more and more often-too many people have been too well brainwashed in the government schools. I'm probably saying "Rights don't come from government!" in my sleep now... but if so, my wife's not told me and I don't stay awake to find out.

Once again, welcome, and I look forward to your posts!

Blessings,
