Permit Process in Nevada

I've had my CCW for years. And, I have three guns already registered with the County as required here in Las Vegas. So, today I went down to get my new revolver registered, and qualify for having it added to my CCW permit.

At the police station I was the only one there. Nonetheless, I spent more than 40 minutes sitting and waiting. They misspelled the street name on the paper work. They got the gun manufacturer and model name wrong. They handed me a form to fill out with grammatical errors on it. They misread the serial number on the gun. And, they had me remove the grips for no reason. I got my registration, and was grateful to get out of there without being injured.

Then I went to a privately owned gun shop. There the gun was inspected, the necessary information was recorded, I shot a box of ammo under the observation of an instructor, and the instructor's certification was issued to me, all in under 10 minutes. What a difference!

Update: Today I went down to the Sheriff's office where CCWs are issued. I took a number and waited about 45 minutes to get called to the window. I gave the clerk my revolver certification and the $25 money order, she checked my IDs, then signed off on the permit modification. She said the new permit would come in the mail within 2 weeks. I asked her if I was legal to carry a revolver before I actually receive the revised permit. She said I was welcome to carry it open, but not to conceal it until I had the revised permit in my possession.

All in all, this was a good (although in my opinion unnecessary) experience.

This past August here in West Virginia, I had to get my concealed carry license renewed so I went to the Sheriffs office to do the paperwork and pay the renewal fee to get the wheels rolling and got the surprise of the week. The Sheriff's secretary told me that if I could wait about an hour I could get my new license that day. So I waited the hour and walked out with my new license.

VThompson, that is quick. I'm pretty sure that when my Mom renewed her permit this spring, she received the new permit before she left the station. That's pretty good for a democratic State.
